From Millenium Development Goals to Sustainable Development Goals

With the end of 2015 fast approaching we are looking at how development under the Millennium Development Goals model will transition to development under the Sustainable Development Goals model. The United Nations has stated that “[a]s we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind” and we at SWB think that this aim is reflected in the model of medical education that we bring to medical professionals working in low resource settings. We believe that all people, regardless of circumstance or location, should have access to quality medical care and that the best way to achieve this is to ensure that medical staff who work in different environments share knowledge and skills.

In the 15 years since the MDGs were established, the world we live in has changed in numerous ways. However, the significant need for health education on a global scale remains. While advances in medical care occur at a rapid rate, the provision of good quality, basic health care remains of greatest importance. This is amplified in low resource settings, where ensuring that the basics of medical care are done well can be lifesaving.
