Seminar in Medicine and Surgery, Kigali, Rwanda - September 2011
SWB co-ordinated another successful seminar in Kigali, Rwanda during the first week of September. Approximately 90 African doctors attended the three-day event, which consisted of presentations and Structured Clinical Instruction Modules (SCIMs) on a range of topics requested by SWB's Rwandan project partners. Australasian Medical Student Application Process Open - Sept Rwanda Seminar - May 2011

SWB RACS Global Surgical Issues Symposium - May 2011
SWB will be hosting a 'Global Surgical Issues' symposium as part of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) Annual Scientific Congress in Adelaide on 2nd May 2011. SWB Annual General Meeting - December 2010

SWB Joins World Health Organisation's GIEESC - November 2010
SWB has become a member organisation of the World Health Organisation's Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC). The GIEESC is an international collaboration of Ministries of Health, WHO country offices, local and international organisations and academia. The specific objectives are to strengthen capacity to deliver effective emergency surgical care at the first referral level facility, improve the quality of care through safe and appropriate use of emergency and essential surgical procedures, and to strengthen existing training and education programs in safety of essential procedures in low and middle income countries. Seminar in Surgery - Kigali, Rwanda, September 2010
A successful SWB Seminar in Surgery took place in Kigali, Rwanda during September 2010. 14 international specialists provided training to over 100 Rwandan medical personnel.
During the 2-day conference, the panel of specialists provided training in a diverse range of topics requested by the local medical community. A research morning followed the program to allow the development of local research with local and international speakers providing updates on current practice in their areas of research interest. SWB Endorses WHO Surgical Safety Checklist - August 2010
SWB has signed up to be an endorsing organisation of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Surgical Safety Checklist. The aim of the checklist is to improve the safety of surgical care around the world by ensuring adherence to proven standards of care.
